Semiotics as an interdisciplinary science

Yair Neuman

pp. 125-134

As a "meta-perspective" semiotics introduces a generic approach that may be widely applied for modeling a variety of phenomena from biology to computer science and psychology. The power of semiotics as meta-perspective or interdisciplinary science results from its ability to conceptualize meaning and value. In this chapter, I introduce this thesis, explain it, and illustrate it through the analysis of the immune system as a meaning-making system, by pointing to the relevance of semiotics for the digital era, and by showing its ability to illuminate psychological phenomenon such as group dynamics.
