Feeling pedagogy

parenting and educating in the flesh

Keffrelyn D Brown, Anthony L Brown

pp. 37-42

This chapter documents the experiences of two African American professors and parents as they confront racism during story time with their child. In the flashpoint moment they narrate, the authors illuminate the indiscriminate ways that race and racism show up in the everyday lives of people of color, including the home space. The authors describe the vulnerability that comes from the realization that racism is everywhere, can manifest at any time, and always leaves behind an emotional toll.
