(1968) S. L. Rubinštejn and the philosophical foundations of Soviet psychology, Dordrecht, Springer.
Soviet psychology is heir to two independent traditions: the philosophical principles of Marxism-Leninism and the scientific traditions of pre-Revo-lutionary, Russian physiological psychology, particularly as evolved and exemplified in the writings of Ivan Petrovič Pavlov. Official Soviet literature recognizes psychology's indebtedness to these two traditions, ascribing to the former the general philosophical foundation for psychology, while the latter is said to provide the scientific methodology.1
